CROSS COUNTRY

Cross Country is our Winter Athletics season. To add variety, we have 3 different tracks and run through puddles, bush trails, mud and open grass and in all weather conditions. Our Cross Country season is open to all existing, old and new members from age groups U6 to U16. We encourage all abilities and our ethos is not just about how fast you run, but how much you can improve.

The LAVic season also comprises of a State XC Relay competition where teams of 3 can enter and each athlete run one leg of the course, along with regular open days, regional competitions and state competitions just like our track and field season.

On the last meet of our season we have a Centre Championship round. This is where each athlete gets to participate for the potential to win their age group and receive a trophy or medal. There is a requirement of having to complete a minimum of 4 EMLAC meets to be eligible to receive the age group champion. IF you don't meet this requirement you may still participate - you are simply not eligible for the award.

REGISTRATION & FEES

  • All existing 2023/24 members are covered by their track and field registration. Nothing to do or pay.

  • New members do need to register via the LAVic website registration portal, click HERE to register. New member fees are $70.00 for the season.

  • If you are a returning member from the 2021/22 season you will need to register as a returning member. If you have been a member at any time you will also register as a returning member. All returning members can register HERE.

HOW DOES IT WORK

Each week athletes will receive an email with the upcoming meet details. Athletes will turn up on the day and report to the registration table to 'sign in' and receive their patch. (existing members who still have their
patch - please bring them as they are still valid)

Parents must sign in with the provided QR code and follow our COVID guidelines as stipulated by LAVic.

Competition begins at 8.45am for marshal and volunteer briefing. Athletes in the first race will marshal at 8.50am for a starters briefing. The first race will then commence at 9.00am sharp. Athletes in first race must be marshal 10 minutes prior to their event for the starter briefing.

If you turn up late and miss briefing you will not be able to participate. All athletes must be on time and attend the starters briefing due to safety reasons.

We will have a Tortoise and the Hare system, especially for our younger age groups. All tracks will be clearly marked out and track marshals stationed around the course. Results will be recorded and can be found on your Results HQ family portal.

Parents will be required to help and be marshals on the day, therefore there will be a Parent/Guardian helper roster each week.

Families will be required to do their rostered duty for their athlete to be eligible to compete.

This event is strictly a "NO drop and run" event. Parents/guardians MUST stay for the duration of their athletes event. If there is an athlete unattended by a parent/guardian, they run the risk of their athlete not being able to participate.

PLEASE NOTE: Covid safety rules still apply. Please continue to social distance where you can.

WHEN

The season will commence on Saturday May4th 2024 and will run for 12 weeks, concluding in August 2023. There will be no meets on the LAVic scheduled region and state competitions. Instead we encourage all our athletes to enter these events. You can find the season calendar HERE.
