SENIORS ATHLETICS

WHAT AND WHERE?

To provide an opportunity for those seeking higher level competition on synthetic tracks and against athletes from other areas. EMA's Senior club is affiliated with Athletics Victoria (AV) and we compete in Bendigo in the AVSL competition. Members can also compete at AVSL venues in Melbourne.

Our members are also eligible to compete in the AV XCR (cross country) season through winter. Members are also eligible for all the AV Championships: Country Vics, Relays, Combined events and State Championships.

Competition is for U14 through to 50+. You must be turning 12 in the next year to join.

WHAT IS AVSL?

Contested during the summer season, from October to February, the Athletics Victoria Shield League (AVSL) is Athletics Victoria’s summer track and field competition. With over 50 clubs and five AVSL divisions, clubs battle it out across ten rounds of AVSL to see who takes home the Shield, as well as promotion and relegation for the 2025/26 Season.

Each athlete can register for and compete in as many events as they wish. Athletes will be scored based on a performance scale, with a limited number (to be confirmed shortly with AVSL committee) of their best individual events plus one relay (when held) results counting towards their club’s overall score.

FUN FACT

Did you know why we have the number 58 in our logo?

It is because every centre was numbered in order of affiliation date. Meaning we were the 58th centre in Victoria to start up! And that was back in 1976.
